Acer shirasawanum 'Mikado'

An upright-growing Japanese maple, possibly a hybrid between Acer shirasawanum and Acer palmatum. This cultivar is especially valued for its unusual spring coloration. The leaves emerge in shades of red, then gradually develop soft, light orange to light green centers as the season progresses, creating a striking contrast. By late summer, the foliage matures to a bronzed red tone. Fall color is a brilliant blend of orange infused with red. A truly outstanding and distinctive variety. Discovered by Talon Buchholz.
