Fagus sylvatica 'European Beech'

The European Beech tree is a large shade tree, maturing at about 60 tall by 40 wide, although it can become much larger under favorable conditions. It has an upright oval growth habit and an initially slow growth rate, becoming a medium growth rate by middle age. Beeches generally require full sun to partial sun but are tolerant of partial shade to full shade in youth. Heat and drought, once established. The bark of this variety is a very attractive light to medium gray. Fall colors range from orange/yellow to orange/red. This variety has been used in bonsai culture for hundreds of years. Very unique branch structure and responds well to branch trimming and training. We also use this variety as rootstock for grafting named Beech varieties such as Tri-color and Weeping Purple.
