Acer palmatum 'Orion'
A dwarf Japanese Maple with unique leaves and color. 'Orion' originated as a witches broom mutation. The spider-like leaves are heavily dissected with lobes that slightly curl. The spring color is bright orange-red changing to a cherry red for early summer. The older leaves slowly fade to bronze, but this variety has a tendency to push new growth during the summer months, which creates a beautiful contrast and keeps the tree looking fresh, even in the middle of summer. The fall color is electric orange. Discovered by Dick Wolff of Red Maple Nursery in Pennsylvania.
